If you want to make edits it might be better to use a hex editor - some text editors can corrupt the file by adding proprietary data to it before saving (though Notepad should be OK). Scroll down and you should see the text strings used in-game. The first page or so is gibberish (that's the binary code used to act as 'signposts' into the main data).
